Thank you for checking out the Renaissance Brothers blog. The blog is written by and managed by two people: Richard Dole and Matthew Altizer. Firstly…we are not actually brothers, nor are we lovers. We simply have a love and appreciation for the arts and want to do what we can to promote the arts in our community (Indianapolis) and beyond.
Richard Dole (RBD): Hi, I’m Rich. I am a professional trombone player here in the Indianapolis community . I have a Bachelors of Music in Trombone performance from Indiana University School of Music and a Masters of Music from the IU School of Music in Jazz Studies. I have played and toured with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Barry Manilow, Four Tops, The Temptations, Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, Steve Lawrence & Edie Gorme and have a regular trio gig at The Aristocrat Pub & Restaurant in Broad Ripple, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Matthew Altizer (mda): Hi, I’m Matthew. I am Marketing and Communication Director of Percussive Arts Society. My background is a little different from Rich’s in that I am on the academic side. I received a BM in Saxophone Performance and BA in Music Theory from Indiana State University and a MM in Musicology/Ethnomusicology from The University of Texas at Austin, specializing in 20th Century Experimental music and early African-American traditions.
A perfect combination, that Rich and Matthew…
Concept: In the fall of 2009 (oh what a good year…) Matthew Altizer and Richard Dole decided to start getting their great ideas and opinions down on paper…digital paper that is. Hence, this blog. We both love promoting the arts, discussing the performances we’ve attended and talking baseball. We LOVE baseball. mda is all about the New York Yankees (it’s a family thing) and RBD is all about the St. Louis Cardinals (it’s where he grew up) and since those are the two best teams EVER, we are the best fans EVER. Don’t argue, it’s the truth.
